Our Legal Roots

EdgeLex is led by a seasoned entrepreneur whose career spans pioneering remote technology delivery for law firms, revolutionary hardware innovation in resource management, and privacy-first AI for the legal industry.

David Duncan

David Duncan

Founder & CEO

David Duncan founded EdgeLex to deliver sovereign, on-premises AI solutions that empower law firms to harness large language models without compromising client confidentiality or data sovereignty.

From 1995 to 2001, he founded and led Gaia Technologies, one of the earliest Application Service Provider (ASP) companies in the southeastern United States dedicated exclusively to the legal sector. At a time when “cloud computing” was not yet a recognized term, Gaia Technologies delivered remotely hosted applications—true precursor cloud solutions—enabling law firms to transition from costly, in-house IT infrastructure to centralized, scalable systems. This included hosted access to Westlaw research platforms, document management systems, and time-and-billing software, while addressing critical challenges in scalability, security, maintenance, and operational efficiency.

This early, deep immersion in legal technology gave David profound insight into the operational, compliance, and workflow challenges unique to law firm management—knowledge that directly informs EdgeLex’s focus on seamless, attorney-centric integrations and strict ethical alignment.

Later, David invented and commercialized the world’s first cellular-controlled water valve system, revolutionizing remote water management and resource conservation. Building on this success, he continued advancing smart infrastructure solutions before returning to his roots in legal technology with the emergence of generative AI.

Today, David drives EdgeLex’s mission to provide law firms with fully private, customizable, and on-premises LLM deployments that enhance productivity while maintaining the highest standards of client privilege and professional responsibility.
